The grassroots movement "Niu Now" is on a mission to restore the "niu," or coconut, as a fundamental food crop on O'ahu, Hawai'i and spread the Indigenous wisdom of "aloha 'āina:" loving land and serving people.

In September 2022 Kumu Niu was honored with a Jackson Wild Media Award in the Short Form category for Human Planet, and in November of 2022, the film was recognized with the Deep Blue Environmental Shorts Award at Hawai'i International Film Festival. “Kumu Niu" has been broadcast nationally on PBS as part of Pacific Heartbeat, Season 12, and you can watch it below!
